Who's behind Vinitor
Vinitor is a one-person company from Linz. That's not a drawback, it's the point: short paths, honest answers and software that comes out of real vineyards.
The story
The idea is born during an internship at the Urbanihof winery: new employees can't find the right vineyard — more than just an annoyance during plant protection or the harvest. One of the co-founders brings in a group of software developers, and the map idea turns into a first prototype that grows fast: tasks, time tracking, damage reports.
Vinitor is developed further as a diploma thesis at HTL Leonding — graded “excellent” in 2019.
Eleven wineries come on board as development partners, test Vinitor in real operation and help shape its direction.
Market launch: the project becomes Vinitor GmbH.
The wine industry is in a hard year economically — and the GmbH slides into insolvency with it. I had built and developed Vinitor as technical lead in the years before, and the project mattered too much to me to let it end: I bought Vinitor back. During the transition I kept paying for the servers out of my own pocket — the service kept running, no customer lost any data.
Vinitor carries on as Vinitor Software Solutions e.U. in Linz — with a new billing system, lower prices, a permanently free tier and monthly updates.
What that means for you: if you have a question, the person who writes Vinitor answers it. If a feature is missing, it's often in sooner than you'd think.
